Peter Ellis (architect)
Peter Ellis (1805–1884) was a British architect from Liverpool and inventor of the paternoster lift. He is best known for designing Oriel Chambers, built in 1864, which is the world's first building to feature a metal-framed glass curtain wall (architecture), curtain wall. For this achievement he appears in the ''Guinness Book of Records''. From the mid-1840s he lived at 40 Falkner Square, a house which he designed and on which an English Heritage Blue Plaque is now sited. Buildings Peter Ellis designed Oriel Chambers in 1864 at the corner of Water Street and Covent Garden in Liverpool, considered by many architectural historians to be one of the most influential buildings of its age, a precursor of the modernist style in architecture and one of the earliest attempts to break away from the classical tradition of commercial architecture. Peter Ellis (actor)
Peter Ellis (born 30 May 1936) is an English actor. Ellis has worked extensively in theatre and television both as an actor and director. He spent four seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as spending five years at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, and three years with the Old Vic Company which included playing Benvolio in Zeffirelli's ''Romeo and Juliet'', Hotspur in ''Henry IV, Part 1'' and later Rosencrantz in a world tour of ''Hamlet'' starring Derek Jacobi. He also played Guildenstern in ''Hamlet'' on the site of the new Globe Theatre. In the West End he appeared in ''The Tulip Tree'' and in Ray Cooney's ''Funny Money''. He is perhaps best known for playing the role of Chief Superintendent Charles Brownlow in the long running ITV drama ''The Bill''. Has also appeared as a semi-regular in ''Emmerdale Farm'' and ''Coronation Street''. Peter James Ellis (28 January 1948 – 24 April 2006) was a British director of television episodes, including episodes of shows such as ''Supernatural'' and ''Criminal Minds''. Personal life He was born in London and educated at Highgate School, as were his brothers, Robin Ellis and Jack Ellis. Career He began his career at Granada TV in the UK, being placed on their Director's Course. In the late 1980s, he moved to Hollywood, California, where he was based for the rest of his life. He directed many television episodes, working on productions in the United States, Canada, France, New Zealand, and Spain. Death Ellis died on 24 April 2006 in Los Feliz, Los Angeles at the age of 58. Peter Ellis is a British Elite and Age Group duathlete from The New Forest, England. Competing at Elite level he is a four time Powerman Duathlon World Series race winner with wins in Gothenburg (Sweden 2015), Michigan (USA 2018 and 2019) and Hawaii (USA 2019), securing further podium finishes in Putrajaya (Malaysia 2017), Panama City (Panama 2018) and Arizona (USA 2020). Peter Graeme Ellis (4 March 1947 – 21 May 2013) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ellis started his career at Queensland club Mayne. He represented his state in 1966 and 1967. A ruckman, he played for Fitzroy from 1969 to 1971, but managed just seven senior appearances. Peter Berresford Ellis (born 10 March 1943) is a British historian, literary biographer, and novelist who has published over 98 books to date either under his own name or his pseudonyms Peter Tremayne and Peter MacAlan. He has also published 100 short stories. Under Peter Tremayne, he is the author of the international bestselling '' Sister Fidelma'' historical mystery series. His work has appeared in 25 languages. Peter Hugh McGregor Ellis (30 March 1958 – 4 September 2019) was a New Zealand childcare worker who was wrongfully convicted of child sexual abuse. He was at the centre of one of the country's most enduring judicial controversies, after being found guilty in June 1993 in the High Court on 16 counts of sexual offences involving children in his care at the Christchurch Civic Creche and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. He maintained his innocence until his death 26 years later and was supported by many New Zealanders in his attempts to overturn his convictions, although others believed he was guilty. Concerns about the reliability of the convictions centred on far-fetched stories told by many of the children (alleging Satanic ritual abuse) and the interview techniques used to obtain their testimony.
